OEM Ford Fuel Filters
My Garage
Gas contains contaminants, left over from its production process. Fuel filters -- most often, two: one in the fuel tank and one in the main fuel line -- help remove them. Without them, those impurities would accumulate in your fuel pump and build up in your fuel injectors, among other engine parts. The result: engine problems. The underlying cause: your fuel system having a harder time moving gas.
Unfortunately, no fuel filter lasts indefinitely; you'll have to replace both eventually. Luckily, one that's going bad has some clear signs, and, besides the obvious lit Check Engine light on the dashboard, they're pretty easy to spot:
- Rough starts
- Engine lag
- A misfiring engine
- Shuddering while idling
- Stall-outs
- Being unable to start your vehicle at all
Fuel filter failure, however, has one major (and obvious) symptom: engine failure.
Seeing any of these? Run a careful fuel system inspection and change your fuel filters if the results indicate it.
