Your vehicle has many belts and hoses. They move its various parts. Belts move them mechanically. They turn the crankshaft, among others. There are several types of belts. Serpentine belt and drive belts, for example, move parts across a variety of systems, from your alternator and power steering pump to your AC compressor and water pump.
