Engines burn fuel for power, creating noxious byproducts. Exhaust systems remove them, safely capturing what's harmful before releasing gases that are much cleaner into the atmosphere (and even muffling the noise the process creates). This protects you and your passengers, and it's better for the environment.

You probably already know this, and how exhausts work generally. Contaminants go through the catalytic converter, where platinum, rhodium, and palladium capture and contain toxins and split them into oxygen and nitrogen; the N2 gets trapped, the O2 is allowed through, hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide are burned up, and water vapor and carbon dioxide are released. The exhaust manifold collects the gases and sends them through the exhaust pipe, while the resonator and muffler optimize airflow and cut engine noise. The muffler's tail pipe expels cleaner fumes, and the process repeats.

What Roush performance exhausts do for your Ford F-150, though, is one better. They also encourage more air flow with less back pressure, which results in better horsepower and torque when your truck really needs it.
