Spark plugs ignite the fuel and air in your vehicle's engine. The process whereby they do is called spark ignition. Turn your key in its ignition lock cylinder, and you'll see how it works. Put simply, an ignition switch triggers, and your car battery works with a starter motor, a starter solenoid, and an ignition coil to produce electrical current. They send it to the plugs' leads; the charge combusts the oxygen and gas inside the engine, its pistons pump, its crankshaft turns, and your vehicle's many other systems begin running.
No spark plug lasts forever, though. Sometimes, their ability to conduct electricity can diminish, often the result of corroded or excessively widened leads. If your engine is misfiring or failing, for example, more than likely, it's because you've got bad spark plugs. Broken ones are worse, though. They can severely damage engine cylinders.
Seeing any of these problems? Do an engine inspection and change any spark plugs at issue. Otherwise, be sure not to let them exceed the kilometrage limits your owner's manual specifies.
So, what spark plugs does your vehicle need? Those your brand manufactures for your model specifically. They're your best compatibility guarantee. We offer a wide variety; many are extended-life, meaning they're made to last millions of ignitions, up to about 160,900 kilometers, and they usually come made of either copper, platinum, or iridium -- copper for normal, everyday driving and platinum or iridium for increased wear-resistance.
